While we were true masters of the Etch-a-Sketch in our youth -- our masterpiece work: "Stairs, a cross section" was a big hit with mom -- we were never privileged enough to own one of Tyco's Doodle Domes, which is basically an Etch-a-Sketch in a sphere.
Bold plans cover not just restoration of the Dead Sea, but greening the deserts, providing clean cheap energy, and desalination.
Currently the plan to restore the Dead Sea is a Red to Dead Sea Canal/pipeline. World Bank officials recently met with Jordanian officials and reported that they already solicited substantial funds for the feasibility study from donor countries and will attempt to secure the remaining funds from other donor countries. This plan is of great import for development of southwestern Jordan. It will provide sufficient desalinated water to sustain numerous new communities in this region as well as to establish a vast agricultural area. It will also bring water to the Dead Sea Chemical works as they need more water for their evaporation ponds. There may be problems with this plan, perhaps not insurmountable. The major obstacle is finding some way to make this canal and pipeline able to resist earthquakes, as the entire route of the canal/pipeline is on the Syria-African fault.
The Mars Greenhouse project is part of the Advanced Life Support system for the mission to Mars. The Mars Dome Project (MDP) is designed to grow plants in an enclosed structure under reduced pressure. This system includes a dome enclosure, an environmental control system, a plant growth system, data logging system, and an external vacuum vessel. Each of these systems are integrated by the use of a solid-state control device located inside the base of the Atmospheric Tower Management System (ATMS).
Growing numbers of Baby Boomers are building their dream homes in the classic '60s shape of geodesics
Bruce Nelkin decided in 10th grade that he would someday live in a geodesic dome, after seeing a picture of one in a science book. "It looked like something out of 'Star Wars,' '' Nelkin said. "I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, and I said to myself, 'When I grow up I'm going to build one of those.' ''
Year-round swimming? Actually the Campbells say humidity levels make it “rain” in their house during the winter. They typically close the pool from October through the spring.
